Abaca String Band
With appearances at the Lincoln Center, the Chautauqua Institution, The Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert Series, Musikfest, and The White House, The Abaca String Band has created its own unique niche and established itself as a top-ranked ensemble in the field of chamber music. Founded in 1991 by guitarist Andrew Schulman, ABACA features a rare combination of instruments consisting of the 8-string guitar, mandolin, violin, viola and double bass which is perfectly suited to their original arrangements of the classics ranging from Bach and Mozart to Gershwin and the Pinball Wizard from the rock opera, Tommy. ABACA has been called outrageous, irreverent and wonderfully refreshing. With its wonderful juxtaposition of instruments and styles, this superb musical ensemble will leave every audience musically energized and thoroughly entertained.
