Carnegie Hall, January 16, 1938...the Benny Goodman Orchestra swings its way into big band history. Gene Krupa pounding out "Sing, Sing, Sing" on the tom-toms made his own bit of big band history that night as well. Atlantic City's Steel Pier, April 16, 1938...a crowd of 4,000 fans gathered in the Marine Ballroom to hear the newly formed Gene Krupa Orchestra. Indianapolis, 1964...while appearing at the Embers in Indianapolis, a young drummer, Michael Berkowitz, was brought to the club to hear his idol, Gene Krupa, and from that moment on the die was cast. Now, after a career that included eleven years with Nelson Riddle, Liza Minnelli, Billy Joel, Elton John, Michael Feinstein and countless others, drummer extraordinaire Michael Berkowitz brings the Krupa magic back to life for a new generation. Using Krupa's original charts including "Drum Boogie", THE NEW GENE KRUPA ORCHESTRA of 15 musicians and male vocalist recreates the infectious energy of Krupa's original band with a sound as fresh as today. Also available is the Michael Berkowitz Big Band in A SALUTE TO THE CAPITOL YEARS which features the band with both a male and female vocalist who recreate the historic recording sessions of the stars of Capitol Records such as Judy Garland, Rosemary Clooney, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Sammy Davie Jr., Peggy Lee and Nancy Wilson.
